A Few Thoughts on Stupidity and What It Entails
Stupidity has reached epic heights as of late. By browsing this sad, sad website known as "Xanga", people's stupidity is put on full display for the world to see.
Generally speaking, the blogs of fellow students maintain status as fairly good reading material. The problem comes when looking outside of this community and into what could be considered the "outside world", when idiocy comes hitting you head-on with the approximate force of a locomotive.
One of the well-known running examples of this on Xanga is people who impersonate their favorite celebrities. Common targets are selected from the popular show of the moment (Laguna Beach has been quite hot as of late). Sometimes, if someone does a particularly good job of impersonating a celebrity, they'll get enough eProps (sigh) that their blog is featured content on the front page.
Now then, take a moment to observe these sites.

These are allegedly Lucas Grabeel and Ashley Tisdale, stars of the Disney Channel's recent teenie-bopper sensation High School Musical. Except that they aren't.
Here are a few choice nuggets from "Lucas's" site:

And yes me and ashley r going out so yes.
I particularly like how he linked to that black-and-white image from TVTome.com. That's classy.
And a couple prime cuts from "Ashley's" site:

AND HE IS MINE SO ALL OF YOU GIRLS OUT THERE POSTING ON HIS XANGA THAT HE IS SOO HOTT AND TO FORGET ME AND GO OUT WITH HIM-- YOU AREN'T DOING ANYTHING GOOD BECAUSE HE LOVES ME NOT YOU SO GO BOTHOR SOMEONE ELSE PLEASE!!!!! THANKS!
Yeah, go bothor someone else, ya jerks.
Even better yet is this post:
and also a lot of you are saying that im fake because on my website (([www.ashleytisdale.com])) it says i DO NOT have an xanga. that is WRONG. i do not have a myspace. my agent helped me make this and she has to get my web designer to change that. hopefully it will be changed soon!

Some (gullible) person might say that I'm engaging in hasty generalization; who's to say that maybe these kids do type in common internet lingo? Except for one problem. They aren't kids.
According to the always-wonderful International Movie Database, both Tisdale and Grabeel are 21 years old. Now tell me, would any dignified 21-year-old man (college age) say "And yes me and ashley r going out so yes"?
Even worse than the extremely embarassing attempt at celebrity impersonation so vividly exhibited on these sites is the fact that people actually fall for it. Here is a comment on "Ashley's" site that punched me in the stomach.
well me and my friends watch the suite life of zack and cody all the time! i dont think i have ever missed an episdode! is this really ashley tisdale? cuz im your biggest fan!!!!! call me (717) 6517756! i would love to talk to you to see if your actually real! leave me a comment please! bye
love, hannah
In case that's still sinking in for you, let me make it abundantly clear. SHE POSTED HER HOME PHONE NUMBER. ONLINE. On one of Xanga's most-visited sites. To illustrate how horribly insecure this is for her, try pasting that phone number into Google. Go on. I'll wait.
Yes. While rampant stupidity might elicit a chuckle or two from the real actors (both of whom probably very much enjoy visiting their impersonators' sites), it could conceivably be considered dangerous.
I honestly don't have much more to say. I merely request that you use your heads in your online dealings. Don't be stupid, k? That is all. Edit: Looks like I might have helped close down one of their sites. Woo woo, I feel rather good about myself now.
